Time Management Tips for Working College Students

7_1Regardless of whether you are a college student grinding it out so that you are able to finish your chosen degree and be able to sustain your daily needs, or professional that has gone back to school to even attain further credentials to advance in the chosen career path, managing time is a task that is far from being easy. You may have a lot of responsibilities to handle that may cut in on your study time, from responsibilities to your family and kids, or time for work, for meetings and etc, and no matter how many times you wish for more hours in a day, that will never happen.

The truth, though, is that there is no lack of time of any sort in this world. There is, however, the abundance of people wasting their time and not managing it the right way. There are enough hours in a day for you to do everything you need to do, all you need is to discipline yourself to make use of those available hours so that you do not miss out on anything, such as time for work, for studies, homework, projects, and most important of all, time for sleep.

How to make use of such time, though, is not exactly as easy as it sounds. Luckily, though, these tips below can help working college students to make use of their time and learn a little bit more about time management.

Write Down a Schedule

The most important thing to do when it comes to time management is to write down all of the things that you will be doing on a daily basis and make sure that you allot a proper amount of time for each and every one of the activities you plan on doing. This is the reason why top executives in companies have secretaries to jot down their schedules for them. Because of how busy they are, they need to make sure that they make use of all of their working hours, while not compromising their health.

Considering that you do not have the luxury of having a personal secretary to jot down your schedule for you, then, be sure to do it yourself. Buy yourself a planner or better yet, make use of your powerful smart phone and program it to alarm about an hour, thirty minutes before and fifteen minutes before you plan on doing the said activity.

Yes, making or writing down a schedule may be a very simple piece of advice, but, its importance cannot be dismissed because it is one of the most effective things one can do when it comes to time management. Provided, though, that one actually puts in the effort to follow the schedule as strictly as possible.

Avoid Procrastination and Learn to Make Sacrifices

Procrastinating is one thing that we humans do best. However, that does not mean that we should do it often. It is important to avoid procrastinating at all costs and focus on the task ahead, so as to make sure that it is finished in due time and without compromising anything. If you find something too long to read or if you are doing a project that would take many hours, then, try to do it in small chunks. This can reduce the amount of stress it puts in your body and makes the task a lot less tedious than it should be.

After all, you can always have fun, or drink or even party once you do not have anything else to do. However, during the times wherein you need to take care of something that is important, even if not urgent, then, be sure to take care of it first.

Learn the value of having to sacrifice things that are not as valuable and not as important as matters on hand, and you will be able to manage your time effectively.

Simple as these tips may be, they are effective if one puts in the effort to discipline one’s self. By also learning how to manage your time properly, not only do you avoid missing out on important things and matters, you also get a chance to relax, unwind, and sleep more often, which makes the stress of working and studying at the same time less evident on your health.
